We love the depth of flavor that comes through in this thick made-from-scratch pizza sauce.
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, pressed through a garlic press*
2 tablespoons minced sun-dried tomatoes (packed in olive oil)
1 Tbsp. NY Pizza Seasoning*
1/4 cup red wine
1 (6 ounce) can of tomato paste
1 cup water
2 pinches of kosher salt
¼ – ½ tsp. Red Pepper Flakes*
Heat a large 10-inch skillet over moderate heat. When hot add olive oil, minced onion and garlic. Stir until soft. Add minced sun-dried tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Stir. The hot oil will soften up the dried herbs. Pour in 4 tablespoons of wine and let simmer until reduced by half. Add the entire can of tomato paste and cup of water. Whisk* until combined. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer sauce for 15 minutes. Season with salt and red pepper flakes.
Pour into a jar to cool and store in the fridge for a week or use right away!
Makes about 1-1/2 cups.
