Sumac berries were used in Rome before lemons were introduced to the area.  Ground sumac adds a fruity, lemony taste to meats, hummus, seafood, and yogurt.


1 – 10oz container plain hummus

1 tsp sumac*

1/2 tsp cumin* (optional)

Mix together hummus, sumac*, and cumin*.  Make a small well in the middle of the hummus mixture and fill with a quality extra virgin olive oil.  Sprinkle with sumac.  Serve with crackers, pita bread or chips, vegetables.

Serves: 6-8
