Let’s Do Tomatoes

Gretchen Maser is actually the woman behind the brand, Christina Maser; Christina is her middle name. After years of (almost compulsively) making and canning jams, sauces, and other food goodies and giving them to family and friends, it became clear that there may be a business waiting patiently to debut. Gretchen is self-taught in the kitchen, after growing up in the restaurant business with her family in both northeast PA and then upstate NY. Now, after more than fifteen years in business, Christina Maser products can be found in stores throughout the east coast.

In this class we will start with an array of fresh and local ingredients, to include tomatoes, basil, garlic, sweet peppers,  jalapeños, and honey. We’ll review the different ways to can (process) tomatoes to make them shelf stable, and we’ll create two different recipe; Tomato-Basil Pesto, and a fresh salsa. Participants of the class will go home with a jar of both recipes, the original recipes, and information about the equipment and products necessary to can foods at home.
